Agencies extend pension funding deadlines for Ike victims

The IRS, DOL and PBGC have extended until Dec. 15, 2008, funding deadlines for pension plans affected by Hurricane Ike, if the sponsor, administrator, recordkeeper or actuary is located in one of eight Texas counties listed in Notice 2008-87 and would otherwise face a funding deadline between Sept. 7 and Dec. 15, 2008. The notice covers obligations under both PPA and pre-PPA funding rules, including AFTAP certifications, benefit restriction notices, contribution due dates and funding waiver requests. Deadlines for multiemployer pension plans in endangered or critical status are also extended.  (Select News, 2 Oct 2008)
