Perspective: Effective decision making -- the final frontier of responsible executive remuneration

With the greater scrutiny given executive pay, all businesses feel pressure to ensure that their programs are responsible and defensible. While many companies have revised their pay programs and processes, the changes have largely targeted the "what" and "who" of executive compensation -- not how sound decisions are made and evaluated. To fill this gap, Mercer has developed a set of minimum analytical standards to guide decisions and evaluations to appropriate, effective outcomes. This Perspective describes these standards and their application to the executive pay decision-making process.  (Perspective, 11 Dec 2007, 6 pages)
