Perspective: Buyout, venture capital funds post strong returns in 2006, Mercer IC reports

Private equity managers generated strong results over the past year, with both buyout and venture capital funds producing double-digit returns, reports Mercer Investment Consulting (IC) in its latest Private Equity newsletter. Fueled by one of the strongest merger and acquisition markets since 2001, buyout funds posted returns above 25%. The venture capital sector realized a respectable return of 15.6%, although overall IPO volume activity was lackluster. Year-end 2006 fundraising by venture capital and buyout funds was on pace to post another record year, Mercer IC notes.  (Perspective, 29 Jan 2007, 1 page)
